NEW YORK, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Dennis deLeon, president of the Latino Commission on AIDS, announced today the musical line up that will play for Cielo Latino on May 12, 2009, at Cipriani Wall Street. The Latino Commission on AIDS is delighted to have Jorge Villamizar, formerly of Bacilos, and Yerbabuena as the headlining performers for Cielo Latino.
Colombian born Villamizar comes from a musically inclined family, so it was no surprise when he formed the Latin Grammy Award winning group Bacilos. Recently, he joined British producer Richard Blair and recorded his first solo album at home in Miami and Bogota. His long-awaited album, named Jorge Villamizar, was released on May 20, 2008, and is currently on tour.
"I couldn't be more proud to perform for such a great cause," said Villamizar. "People need to know about this disease, they need to know how it affects everyone in our community. The Latino Commission on AIDS is getting the word out on prevention and I want to lend my voice in the fight against HIV/AIDS."
Yerbabuena is a group of individuals who come together to play the music that they love under the musical direction of singer-composer-musician Tato Torres. It is composed of musicians, singers and dancers from the New York City area who share an intense passion for the musical traditions of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
"We are happy to support the Latino Commission on AIDS," said Flaco Navaja of Yerbabuena. "Latinos don't go down without a fight and that is what we are here to do. We need to keep fighting for a cure for HIV/AIDS, but most of all we need prevention."
The evening will also feature the flamenco sounds of Latin Grammy Award Winning guitarist Hernan Romero, who draws inspiration from the Flamenco music experienced while living in Cadiz, Spain.
Also present will be DJ D'marquesina spinning during the cocktail hour preceding dinner and the awards ceremony.
These entertainers follow in the footsteps of previous Cielo Latino entertainers such as Cucu Diamantes, India - the Reigning Queen of Salsa, Johnny Pacheco, Jean and many others. Tickets for the event are on sale now and sponsorships are still available. For further information, please visit www.latinoaids.org/cielo or contact Elayne Monnens at 212-584-9318.
The Latino Commission on AIDS is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Latino community. In response to the critical, unmet need for HIV prevention and care for Latinos, a coalition of Latino leaders founded the agency in 1990. The Commission realizes its mission by spearheading health advocacy for Latinos, promoting HIV education, developing model prevention programs for high-risk communities, building capacity in local organizations and health departments, and by conducting community-driven research and evaluation. Through its extensive network of member organizations and community leaders, the Commission works to mobilize an effective Latino community response to the health crisis created by HIV/AIDS. The Commission is currently providing services in more than 40 States, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Since 1994 the Commission has been directed by Dennis deLeon, a national advocate and visionary leader of the Latino community's struggle to contain the AIDS epidemic.

LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Warner Music Latina) - Jorge Villamizar set a record in Venezuela when "ALMA EN LIBERTAD" (Freed Soul) ,his second cut from his homonymous album, became number one charting in three categories. The single topped the Latin, Pop & Rock, and General categories charts, according to Venezuela Record Report.
The songs with melodic guitars, fused with nostalgic tones, dealing with lack of love counts on a showy video that is shot in the streets of Bogota combining the colorful nocturnal life of the city with the beauty of the Colombian woman.
The video was directed by Emiliano C. Lopez and produced by Jose Mafla.
JORGE VILLAMIZAR's album which debuted last May on Warner Music Latina, was received with rave reviews. The songs include "Como vivir asi" (How to live like that) "Enredadera" (Web), "No", "Alma en liberated" (Freed soul), "Espejo" (Mirror), "Que mas quisiera yo" (What more would I want), "Espero que tu puedas vivir con lo que tengo para dar" (I hope you can live with what I got to give) "Pequenos romances" (Small romances), "El colombiano errante" (Nomadic Colombian), "Dime quien" (Tell me who) and "Que pereza" (What laziness).
After gaining fame and recognition through his band BACILOS, which he fronted for 12 years and with which he snagged a Grammy , JORGE VILLAMIZAR decided to undertake a new career venture as a solo artist. After the brake up of the group in February of the 2007 and beginning of his solo career the talented composer decided to take a hiatus and travel. His travels took him from Paris to Bogota, to Cartagena and Miami. During this time period and with no plans to penned new material, the songs in the new album were born. The record was recorded between Miami and Bogota with the collaboration of producer Richard Blair. The album featured the collaboration of top caliber musicians such as Chucho Merchan on base (Pete Townsend, David Gilmour, Pretenders, Eurythmics), Teto Ocampo on guitar and Robert Cuao on "grooves".
